Enrollment climbing
It is always an exciting time when school opens for another school year. It was great for myself to greet high school students for another year and see the enthusiasm on many faces. It was equally exciting to go to the elementary classrooms and see the excitement in our young students faces in Eden Valley and Watkins. I would like to bottle that excitement and keep it going for a whole year. Looks like we will be starting the year up between 35 and 40 students in K-12 for the year. (Read more)

Peterson to retire June 30
An era will come to a close June 30 when EVW principal-turned-superintendent Larry Peterson retires.
Peterson, who was hired as high school principal in the fall of 1989, has served as superintendent since 2002. He has been working on a three-fourths time contract since 2008.
“ I have enjoyed my tenure in Eden Valley-Watkins as a high school principal and superintendent,” Peterson said. “It is time to move on and do other things with my life. I have been lucky to work with wonderful staff, supportive parents and communities and great kids over the years. They all made it a great experience.”
The school voted Aug. 15 to begin the search for a new, full-time superintendent. Applications will be taken in November and December. The board will then review applications and interview in January and February with the new superintendent hired in March.
Peterson will spend the final year of his contract overseeing the $9.7.million bond referendum approved by the voters in May. The bond includes a eight elementary classrooms and a new gym and remodeling at the high school.

Plans for construction phases progressing
EVW School personnel and staff have been meeting with the architect and construction manager over this summer working on building plans. The first plan is to decide the eight elementary classrooms at Eden Valley and Watkins Elementary Schools. Most of these classrooms will be for K-3 elementary instructors and thus what do we need to include in these rooms. After considerable discussion, the school district in Eden Valley will add six classrooms to the northeast corner and will have to purchase .43 acres from the city in order to maintain the right distance from property lines and other ordinances, Also plans are being made to bid a new cafeteria area in the same vicinity as the present elementary locker rooms, this is the first alternate on the project but is a high priority for the district and the staff.
